1. According to Public Health Reports, about "3 million 14 to 17 year olds have problems with the use of alcohol" and "27 percent of all 10th to 12th graders drink at least once a week".
2. From a more recent article in The National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information, "four out of fice teens have consumed alcohol, and 62% of teens get drunk at least once before graduating".
3. Adolescents who's ages fall between 15 and 20 years of age that are killed in a traffic accident, 33 percent of the accidents reported are related to alcohol.
4. According to another article, the sad truth of this matter is that in combination with emotional problems such as stress or depression, aclohol may enhance these emotions and cause the "third leading cause of death among people between the ages of 14 and 25" which would be suicide. It is reported in this article from www.teendrugabuse.us taht "37 percent of eighth grade females who drank heavily reported attempting suicide, compared to 11 percent" that did not.
5. More of a reality check comes from "The Marin Institute" in which it is stated that "alcohol is a leading cause of death among youth". Each day, adolescents between the ages of 12 and 20, there are approximately 11,318 kids in America that begin to use alcohol. Finally, the Institute stated that an adolescent that starts to consume alcohol by the age of 15 is "four times more likely to develop alcoholism than those who begin drinking at 21".
